My name is Junie Quimby and I am 33 years old. I have a B.A. in English Literature and M.L.S. in Library Science, both from Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas. I worked for the past 8 years as an educator, five of them as an elementary school teacher (Third and Fifth grades) and the last three as a school librarian. I am a member of TASL (Texas Association of School Librarians) and I'm a very active participant in a women's soccer team. (Go Cougars!) I also coach for YMCA youth soccer. I love to read! I especially love children's literature and grew up reading Beatrix Potter.
My Educational Philosophy:
I am a true 21st Century Librarian--(no shushing in my library!)--which means I strive to incorporate the five roles of School Librarians (leader, instructional partner, information specialist, teacher, and program administrator) as outlined by the AASL (American Association of School Librarians) in my profession daily.
Key to promoting student literacy and supporting the goals of the school and library is collaboration with teachers and administrators. I actively seek out ways to combine content standards and library standards in meaningful lessons that excite the students. I promote student literacy through inquiry research methods, balancing our library collection to support the curriculum and students' reading and research interests, and making the library accessible through online databases and Web 2.0 technology. In addition to guiding the students through their literacy needs, I support the staff by offering staff development training on a continuing, as-needed basis.
